What is “Race to a Million”?

The “Race to a Million” is a contest devised by the co-founders of Canada’s Mastermind Development Corporation (CMDC), namely, Peter Cameron-Inglis and Dean Pierson. It is more than a contest though… it is an experiment specifically designed to prove the effectiveness of the Mastermind concept as well as an opportunity to give back to the community by raising significant financial support for a variety of charitable organizations.

How does it work?

The “Race to a Million” is a money making contest involving 5 teams, the original 4 Master Mind groups from CMDC based in Kamloops, British Columbia, Canada, and 1 team of MBA students from Thompson Rivers University (TRU). These groups include Mastermind Team Matrix, Mastermind Team Nexus, Mastermind Team Genie, the flagship Mastermind Team Alpha, and the team from Thompson Rivers University – Team TRU.

Each team is given $500 to start and their task is to parlay that $500 into $1,000,000 by using creativity and innovative thinking. Who can come up with the best money making ideas? Which group can best work as a team to beat the competition?

It won’t be easy!

Each group is bound by the guidelines of the contest which will force them to “tap” the power of their Mastermind group and/or team to strategically innovate their way to victory! This contest will reward the swift as a portion of their financial strategies must “pay off” in a very short amount of time while there will also be an opportunity to create some strategic longer term investments.

What is Victory?

The first group to reach $1,000,000 will be declared the 1st place winner and will be awarded seventy percent (70%) for their efforts to be split equally among the members! They have to do it quickly though… the clock will be ticking… counting down to July 1st, 2011. If no group has hit the $1,000,000 by that date, then the group with the highest dollar value attributed to their team will be declared the victor and will receive seventy percent (70%) of whatever that total number is to split among their team members.

The second place team will receive sixty percent (60%) of their total, third place team will receive fifty percent (50%) of their total, the fourth place team will receive forty percent (40%) of their total, and the fifth place team will receive thirty percent (30%) of their total.

Charitable contributions

Each team will also be playing on behalf of a specific charity. Each team’s charity will essentially be another member of that team. What does that mean? Well, each team’s charity will receive an equal share of the prize money for their group. Let’s say for example that Team Matrix wins the contest by reaching $1,000,000 by July 1st 2011. They would split the prize money (70% of total) 7 different ways (6 team members + their charity of choice). So each team member would receive $100,000 and their charity would also receive $100,000… but wait… there’s more.

Canada’s Mastermind Development Corporation (CMDC) will be matching the charitable share of each team’s winnings… so, in this example… the Team Matrix charity would receive their share of the prize ($100,000)+ CMDC will match that amount ($100,000). The Team Matrix charity in this example would receive $200,000!

About Dean Pierson

Dean PiersonWhere to begin? Dean is sure that grown ups ask kids what they want to be when they grow up because they are still looking for good ideas with what to do with their own lives. Dean has a diverse background in many industries and at the age of 45 is still throwing himself into new challenges. Before becoming one of the founder’s of Canada’s Mastermind Development Corporation, he was a certified trainer with the Dale Carnegie Business Group (How To Win Friends and Influence People) and relished the opportunity to assist people with becoming more effective communicators as well as better “people” people. He also spent 20 years as a radio broadcaster and always points to his 8 year tenure as the host of the “Mike in the Morning” show on CKRV FM “The River” in Kamloops as the best years of his broadcasting career. In his late teens and most of his 20′s, Dean was a well known night club DJ at many different clubs in Penticton and throughout the Okanagan Valley. He also has experience in advertising sales (radio/print) and even fancies himself as somewhat of a graphic designer and novice video producer.

Without question, of all the experience that Dean has… he is in the midst of the most exciting professional adventure of his life with Canada’s Mastermind Development Corporation. “The impact that we are having on individuals, businesses, the economy as a whole and the entirety of our community is rewarding beyond words” says Dean. “I am literally tingling with excitement every day as I think of what is to come!”

While his professional life is important (and fun)… Dean always takes time to enjoy every aspect of his life. Some of his fave activities include boating with his family on Okanagan and Kamloops lake, fishing, golfing and (as any good Canadian boys does)… playing hockey.

Dean is married to his wife of 18 years Lori and has an 18 year old son Michael who is currently attending Thompson Rivers University in Kamloops. Other members of the Pierson household include Drake the Golden Retriever/Labrador cross  and Nermal the “good luck” black cat.

About Peter Cameron-Inglis

Peter Cameron-Inglis and Tania Vidovic

In addition to being a founder of Canada’s Mastermind Development Corporation and the Race To A Million Peter is also one of the founders and the Vice President of ASL Internet in Kamloops, British Columbia, Canada. A company which his partner, Vic Kovacs, and he  formed in 2001 and which subsequently was sold and became a division of Canoe.ca (A Quebecor Media Company) in February 2008 but still remains headquartered in Kamloops, British Columbia, Canada. Peter says he “works with the most amazing, intelligent, caring, and incredibly talented team of people on the planet” in each of his businesses … ASL Internet… Greater Than Technology… and of course Canada’s Mastermind Development Corp’s Race To A Million!

“I live in one of the most beautiful and exciting cities in the world (at least I think so). I am very blessed to have a wonderful and caring woman in my life who is my best friend, my wife and my soul mate. We have a fun-loving border-collie named Doc and two very smart, athletic, and great looking children (they take after their mother) that any father would be extremely proud of… and I truly am!”

“I am a serial entrepreneur and considered, by some, to be a successful businessman. I am passionate about what I do for a living, where I work and who I work with! I really love all of it… most of the time :-)

“But, it wasn’t always this way for me… I have experienced some difficult times in my life… I have had many challenges and obstacles to deal with… I have learned how to overcome my hardships (with the help of many great people) and maybe that’s why I am doing The Race To A Million. It’s time for me to help others. You see, I don’t want to take anything for granted. Sooner or later everyone get’s the feeling that it’s time to stand-up and be counted… to lend your voice of support to the things, people and places you believe in… lest you lose it all.”

After moving his family back to BC, where he was raised, in 1997 he started Powernet, developing Internet & software apps for business & government organizations. The most noted of which was ‘ChamberNet’ for BC Chambers of Commerce. In 2001 Powernet was chosen as Technology Innovator of the Year.

While building ASL Internet Peter has become an authority on Internet Marketing especially within the auto sector. Peter is a sought after speaker & contributes regularly to several industry publications. In 2009 ASL was chosen by Industry Canada as 1 of 3 top innovative technology firms to represent Canada at Communicasia, the world’s largest ICT conference in Singapore. “Photography has been an interested of mine even since young and I’ve loved every minute of my job at Future Shop from the beginning until now. It’s been a great place for me to learn about the things I love and to really grow even personally.”

“Before that I worked at Starbucks for most of high school which is where I met Peter and his lovely family. About Jordan Nicholson

Jordan has been involved with computers and technology his whole life, from the commodore 64 he had as a child, to the Mac pro he has now, he has seen the changes in technology, and the internet first hand.

Having grown up in a self employed household, Jordan was exposed to the world of business and marketing from an early age. Jordan took the artistic side from his mother Diane, who owns “Twin Heart Photo Productions”, and the technical skills from his father Harry who owned and operated Nicholson Gunsmithing.

After spending all his free time behind the scenes in his stage craft class in high school, Jordan decided it was time for film school. He graduated with honors and found a practicum at one of Vancouver’s great post production studios “Prospero entertainment”. working directly for famous cinematographers, and editing gurus, Jordan honed his skills in the studio’s editing bay, cutting trailers and music videos.

He later volunteered his services for the homeless, editing footage that would be used for a P.S.A. for Global TV. Over the next few years, Jordan found himself working on a variety of projects, commercials, movies, and television shows in the Vancouver film industry.

After a time he knew he needed to get back to his roots in Kamloops, where he started his own production company, CJN Productions. Working on many contracts such as Shaw TV, Yellowpages, and directly for the City of Kamloops.

After finding a team of like-minded professionals, Jordan now dedicates his time and his skills to making a difference in the world, through the Race To a Million!
