Congratulations to our Logo Contest Winner

Posted by Peter Cameron-Inglis | Posted in Prelaunch | Posted on 22-07-2010

After much deliberation we have chosen a winner for the RacetoaMillion.ca logo design contest! The logo is now in the top left hand side of the site. What do you think?  We felt it did a great job of including multiple concepts from our design brief including … social media, video, and a race, while keeping the domain name clearly readable. We are very happy with the results of the contest with 160 logos entered from designers around the world. So, without further adue… congratulations to Andreas Santoso (andreastan) for creating a fantastic logo for the competition. Let the race begin!

RaceToAMillion.ca Logo Contest Update

Posted by Peter Cameron-Inglis | Posted in Prelaunch | Posted on 12-07-2010

The contest officially closed this evening with a total of 160 logo entries over 7 days from 47 different designers.  Now we have 1 week and six days remaining in allotted time from 99Designs.com in which to choose our winner. It is interesting to note some observations about the contest.

There seemed to be several well thought out and creative submissions very close to the end of the contest which suggest that some designers may be employing significant strategic thinking to dealing with contests on 99Designs.com.

While 99Designs.com encourages the contest holder to give a lot of feedback and to rate the designs frequently during the contest it would appear on the surface that this interaction can have negative implications. It was during this time that we experienced the largest number of designers withdrawing all of their submitted designs. We experienced no such negative impact when we ceased providing ratings and feedback to contestants. Other interesting developments include receiving emails from professional designers trying to shame us into pulling support from the controversial practice of “crowd-sourcing” design work and some negative posts between designers accusing each other of stealing design concepts and ideas.

While we received a lot of amateur designs which were completely outside the realm of possibility it is good to also note that there were many varied, professional, unique and creative submissions.  Several of us who are organizing the Race To A Million event have different first choices which makes the process rather exciting.

Stay tuned … we’ll be letting you know the winner soon.

Creative Logo contest for new Social Media meets Reality TV website

Canada’s Mastermind Development Corporation is embarking on an exciting new experiment in entrepreneurship, mastermind group facilitation and social media with RaceToAMillion.ca.

First, we have launched an initial 7 day logo design contest on 99designs.com and will be selecting our logo design winner in a little over 5 days from now.  You can see all of the creative work being entered here.  Here is the Design Brief that we shared with the graphic designers for the logo design contest.

Creative Logo for new Social Media meets Reality TV website

Subtitle:

A new social media phenomenon is about to unfold and you can help to add to its uniqueness.

Design Brief:

Visitors of RacetoAMillion.ca will be able to follow along and interact with contestants as four teams of entrepreneurs race to be the 1st to parlay $500 into $1 Million. Read posts and view weekly video feeds about the innovative ways in which each team has chosen the activities and investments that they make, what the results have been, what returns have been yielded, what they plan to do next and who is on the leader board.

Contestants will adhere to a set of investment rules which include social responsibility, environmental responsibility, and sustainability while not repeating any investment opportunity they have already utilized.

The public will communicate with individual teams, become fans, offer advice, participate in polls, give feedback to teams, and participate in discussion threads and offer investment opportunities and opinions of their own. They can even play along with their own investments to see what works and what doesn’t. How many millionaires in waiting will there be?

The race will end Canada day (July 1st 2011) or once all groups have reached $1 Million, whichever comes first.

Target Audience:

Our target audience is the general public users of social media platforms like Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, and Google Buzz, especially people who would like to start a business of their own but lack the motivation, ideas, or inspiration to do so. This includes people seeking a second income, entrepreneurs, small business owners, and business professionals

Requirements:

  1. Must be a creative logo where the domain name can still be clearly read.
  2. Please do not use any stock images or clip art in the logo.
  3. Incorporate more than one of the following concepts: social media, social responsibility, environmental responsibility, sustainability, a Canadian identity, Reality TV, mastermind groups, a race, and making profit
  4. Please use your own creativity.
  5. We need a Print file format
  6. Web file format – .jpg, .gif and layered .psd (RGB) as well as pdf
  7. Any other essential formats. In color or black and white and color.
  8. We are big fans of these logos http://designm.ag/inspiration/creative-logos/
